This is a well-known and vigorous cultivar with large, rounded flower heads of a rich, vivid blue. Hydrangeas add classic charm and color to the shade garden. Pair them with azaleas, ferns, and shade loving perennials for a woodland look.
Dappled light to part shade, especially afternoon shade. Grow in moist, but well-drained soil in partial shade or dappled light. Provide shelter from drying winds and hot afternoon sun. Adding lime to raise the pH of the soil will turn blue hydrangeas pink.
Compact growth to 4-5 ft high and wide. Flowers on the previous season's wood, and can be maintained by cutting back just to the first pair of buds beneath the old flower in spring. Deciduous.
