House Plants- Staghorn Fern, Elkhorn Fern
A wonderful house plant! We have one in a pot in our bathroom and it is absolutely gorgeous. Staghorn ferns are epiphytes, just like orchids and bromeliads, which simply means they grow on other plants in their native environment, the tropical rainforest. They do great outdoors in tropical climates but also make great houseplants with a little effort. Just keep a spray bottle of water handy to mist the leaves, keeping the humidity up and never place them near a heating vent.
These beauties can be grown in a pot, in a wire basket as well as on a wire frame. They’re commonly seen growing on a piece of wood, like a hunk of bark, driftwood or a tree branch. They thrive like this because it allows for maximum air circulation which is something they love. The perfect compliment to your air plants and other ferns.
Staghorn fern flourishes in warm, humid climates and should be protected from cold conditons. It's generally considered a tender plant and prefers temperatures above 55°F but can withstand temperatures as low as 30°F for brief periods.
