Stokesia 'Purple Parasols' (Stoke's Aster)
- Stiff stems and long-lasting unique violet purple blooms make for excellent cut flowers that are easy to arrange. Native from North Carolina to Florida to Louisiana. Will attract hordes of butterflies. Blooms from early summer until first frost, and is evergreen. Not only are the flowers a beautiful addition to your landscape, their nectar also attracts honeybees. Works wonderfully in a perennial garden or grown in containers. They can also serve as a lovely part of a wildflower, butterfly, or cut flower garden. When used as cut flowers, Stokes’ aster will hold up for about a week after cutting.
- Well-drained soil is necessary for this plant. Very adaptable to moist or dry conditions, but no standing water. Full sun.
- 12-18 inches high and wide. Deadhead individual spent flowers and stems to encourage additional bloom. Cut stalks to base when flowering has ceased.
